Pop star Justin Bieber has cancelled an appearance on U.S. programme The Late Show with Stephen Colbert hours before his scheduled slot.
The Baby singer has been on a major promotional tour for his new album Purpose for weeks, making appearances on a number of chat shows, at award ceremonies and in magazines in North America, Europe and Australia.
Justin has now axed his slot as musical guest on host Stephen Colbert’s CBS show alongside interviewees Spike Lee and Carly Simon on Tuesday (24Nov15) because he cannot get to New York City.
“My apologies to @colbertlateshow as I won’t be able to make it to nyc tomorrow for the show”, he wrote on Twitter.com on Monday evening (23Nov15). “I look forward to making it up to you soon.”
The star did not explain the reason for his absence, but hinted he had some personal issues to take care of. He wrote to Stephen’s personal account, adding, “Thank you for the understanding as sometimes life kicks our a** and we need to deal with it. I will see u (you) soon. Thank you.”
Justin had been in Los Angeles on Sunday night (22Nov15) to close the American Music Awards.
He was due to perform new material from Purpose on the chat show. The disc beat One Direction to the top of the U.S. album charts and is Justin’s highest-selling release in the U.S. so far.
He also has three songs in the Billboard Hot 100 top five – Sorry, What Do You Mean? and Love Yourself – making him one of only three acts to accomplish the achievement, alongside The Beatles and 50 Cent.
He also broke a record by having 17 songs from Purpose score on the Hot 100 at the same time, beating the previous best of 14 which was held by The Beatles and Drake.
Justin has not cancelled other appearances at the last minute during his press tour, but he did quit a TV performance in Norway in October (15) when fans tried to grab his legs as he mopped up a spillage on the stage.
He apologised later on Instagram.com, blaming a “rough week” and “no sleep” on his mood , adding, “I don’t always handle things the right way but I’m human and I’m working on getting better at responding not reacting… Unfortunately people were affected by this as am I. For the people in the back I am so sorry and for anyone I may have disappointed im sorry. Sorry for wasting the tv people’s time I’ll be sure to make it up to you next time on tour.”
